The request

The city of Mulhouse contacted us for its 2026 film festival with an original request: to produce custom trophies for the winners, along with keepsake goodies for the participants. Two distinct formats were expected:

  • 8 large-format “M d’Or” trophies, to be presented to the winners.
  • 18 miniature versions, to be given to participants as a thank-you.

The need

The brief supplied by the city of Mulhouse set out several requirements:

  • Reproduce the “M” from the municipal logo using its original typeface, while adapting it for 3D printing.
  • Create a trophy of good size, visible on stage, with a finish that evokes gold (but with no manual post-processing).
  • Embed the “Mulhouse” logo and the “M d’Or 2026” inscription directly into the base.
  • Provide a sturdy assembly system, as the large format made single-piece printing difficult.
  • Deliver the trophies individually wrapped, in one secure overall parcel.

Our objective

We supported the city of Mulhouse in bringing their trophy project to life in two distinct stages:

  • Phase 1: main trophy. Create an emblematic, elegant and sturdy object, faithful to the festival’s graphic identity and worthy of the event. We had to guarantee: a recognisable shape, drawn directly from the logo
  • Reliable printing, despite the large size
  • Enough strength to be handled and presented in person
  • A gold finish evoking prestige, with no need for paint or varnish

Modelling the trophy

The starting point was the “M” from the city of Mulhouse’s logo. The challenge was to turn it into a 3D object that was at once graphically faithful, stable to stand and visually striking.

  • We reworked the logo’s typeface to make it printable, adding thickness, correcting fragile points and adjusting the tilt.
  • The shape was thickened for added strength and stability.
  • A bespoke base was designed to incorporate: the M d’Or 2026 inscription
  • The cut-out city logo, in relief

Manufacturing and finishing

Manufacturing was carried out in two formats: a large version for the winners, and a miniature version to give to participants. Large trophies

  • Each trophy was printed in two parts, then assembled to guarantee an uncompromising visual quality (no warping, better strength).
  • The glossy gold filament was chosen for its premium finish, requiring no post-processing.
  • Particular care was taken with assembly to avoid any visible defect (precise fit, suitable adhesive).
  • The bases incorporated the festival’s visual elements directly, in relief.

Manufacturing and delivery

  • Manufacturing and delivery of both sets in a single shipment, within a tight deadline.
  • Final sign-off was delayed by numerous exchanges to guarantee the client’s complete satisfaction before production began.
  • A carefully crafted client experience: the pieces were delivered in custom-made wooden boxes.
  • Each piece was wrapped in tissue paper and set on a bed of packing chips, reinforcing the project’s luxury and exclusivity.

From logo to object handed over in person

From a simple logo visual to a coherent set of trophies and goodies, additive manufacturing meets an event's deadlines while taking care over the finish. A keepsake worthy of the presentation.
