Understanding the need: the starting point

1

Request — Special edition and anticipation

For the 40th anniversary of the Internationaux de Strasbourg, the client wanted to:

  • create a special trophy edition to mark the anniversary
  • anticipate future editions by preparing reusable trophies

2

Need — Adapting an existing trophy

The project built on an existing base: a trophy produced several years earlier by Tech Alsace. The core requirement was to integrate:

  • the dedicated 40th-anniversary logo
  • while preserving the visual identity of the original trophy

Our objective — Aesthetics and guidance

Our role was to support the client through their choices, proposing a solution that was at once:

  • aesthetic, consistent with the event
  • technically feasible, despite the size and integration constraints
  • sustainable, in line with the project's intent

The highlights of the project

1

Understanding and proposals

We began with a discussion phase to pin down the expectations properly. This allowed us to: understand the visual and symbolic constraints tied to the 40th anniversary, propose several ways of integrating the logo into the existing trophy, gradually refine a direction validated by the client. This step was essential to lay a clear foundation before production.

Colour tests

Once the design was validated, we ran several trials to define the final look. The choice fell on: a main terracotta colour, a light-brown logo, to ensure legibility and contrast. These tests made it possible to achieve a visual balance faithful to the event's identity.

Manufacturing the trophies

Manufacturing was carried out using FDM 3D printing, with PLA, chosen for its low environmental impact. Given the dimensions: 59 cm for the large trophy, 34 cm for the standard trophies. Each piece was: printed in 3 parts, then assembled, completed with a logo set within an oval, added after printing. The final production comprised: 1 large-format trophy (40th-anniversary edition), 1 small-format trophy (40th-anniversary edition), 5 small-format trophies for future editions.

Conclusion

A sustainable approach

In an eco-friendly spirit, the Internationaux de Strasbourg chose to: produce reduced-size trophies with 3D printing, keep one main trophy reusable from one year to the next. This approach makes it possible to: limit the production of large pieces, ease the organisation of future events, while keeping a strong visual prop for the key moments, such as the official photos.
